From Governor Whitmer
On Friday, April 24, 2020 Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed executive order 2020-59, extending her “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order through May 15. The new order will require people to wear homemade face coverings when they enter enclosed public spaces. It will also lift some restrictions on outdoor activities and allow some workers who perform previously suspended activities to go back to work.
From The Park President & Board of Directors
Staying home and social distancing is working! Thank You! The health and safety of our staff, members, and community remains our top priority. We appreciate your patience, cooperation and flexibility as we all work through these trying times together. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the entire staff, families, membership, state, and nation while we continue to evolve through these changes to combat COVID-19.
Today the State of Michigan announced from the Office of the Governor Executive Order No. 2020-59 effective immediately rescinding Executive Order 2020-42, however, extending the current Stay-At-Home order through May 15, 2020 while maintaining Federal, State and CDC social distancing requirements and guidelines.
The new order does not rescind Executive Order No. 2020-43 regarding the closure of many public accommodations such as libraries, gyms, and recreation centers. EO 2020-43 currently remains in place through April 30, 2020. The new EO (2020-59) also does not address the prior closure State Campgrounds. Sandy Pines is licensed as a State Campground. The new order does communicate that State Parks (not campgrounds) are open for day use only with no overnight camping. However, State Campgrounds (Private and Public) remain closed.
Based on the above confusion among the Executive Orders and Parks vs. Campgrounds, Sandy Pines will make effective immediately (subject to revised guidance):
Lake Monterey Golf Course
- Open to Members and Public
- Must maintain social distancing requirements
- Golf carts will not be available for rental; walking the course is recommended
- Member golf carts can be used; only immediate family members will be allowed to ride in the same golf cart
- Payment via on-line, member account or drop box
- Club House will remain closed
- All users must comply with EO 2020-59.
We have developed a Park Restart Plan EFFECTIVE MAY 1, 2020 to ensure a safe phased process and method of opening the park focusing on the safety of our team, members, and guests. Everything will not return to normal immediately, but we are making progress. We will communicate the first Phase of our Restart Plan on Monday, April 27, 2020. We continue to seek input from State and local officials in an effort to provide clarity on any confusion among the orders.
In the meantime, these plans remain subject to review and revision as necessary as we receive ongoing guidance. As we all have learned over the last several weeks, this is a fluid situation that changes often. Today has been no different.
