COVID-19 Stay Home Extended

From Governor Whitmer

On Thursday, April 9, 2020 Governor Whitmer signed executive order 2020-42, extending her prior “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order through the end of April. As with the prior order, Executive Order 2020-42 limits gatherings and travel and requires all workers who are not necessary to sustain or protect life to stay home. Executive Order 2020-42 also imposes more stringent limitations on stores to reduce foot traffic, slow the spread of the coronavirus, and save lives.

From The Park President & Board of Directors

Staying home and social distancing is working! Thank You! The health and safety of our staff, members, and community is our top priority.  We appreciate your patience, cooperation and flexibility as we all work through these trying times together. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the entire staff, families, membership, state, and nation while we continue to evolve through these changes to combat COVID-19.

With the April 9, 2020 State of Michigan announcement from the Office of the Governor for Executive Order No. 2020-42 extending Stay-At-Home order through April 30,2020, and earlier federal announcements regarding social distancing extending through April 30, 2020,  Sandy Pines and Lake Monterey Golf Course will remain closed through this timeframe. We continue to evaluate a safe process and method of opening the park as well as what that means to ensure the safety of our team, members and guests. Everything will not return to normal immediately.  We will provide an update prior to the expiration of the extended Stay-At-Home order.

In addition, Executive Order No. 2020-20 closed many places of public accommodations.  Such public accommodations include recreation centers, libraries, golf courses, including the facilities of private membership clubs.  Grocery stores are permitted to stay open, so long as they follow the guidelines. For the safety and security of our staff and our community, Sandy Pines’ places of public accommodation that are required to be closed are closed.  This includes Lake Monterey Golf Course, which remains closed. All park entry gates are closed and we’re screening all members at the main gate. Any members not approved for entry will be turned away. All our facilities and playgrounds are closed to help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.

Effective Immediately:

OUT OF STATE RESIDENTS RETURNING TO SANDY PINES PRIOR TO PARK OPENING

  • In coordination with Allegan County and travel restrictions put in place by 36 of 50 states, we continue discouraging travel of any kind and recommending all members remain at their current homes until all such restrictions have been lifted.
  • If your 6-month out of state residency has expired and your summer 6-month residency is Sandy Pines, per State and County order(s) you may return to Sandy Pines with the following restrictions:
    • Must follow a 14-day self-quarantine at your site.
      • This would mean no out and about except for essential needs like groceries.
      • No gatherings at your site or other sites
    • No deliveries into the park, i.e. water softeners or golf carts, until the park officially opens
    • No pump outs until the park officially opens
    • No contractor work except for critical or emergency needs until the park officially opens
    • No water turned on until the park officially opens
    • Limited CC’s are open and available
    • Out of state returning members will need to contact the Public Safety Office 616.896.9006 or Park President 616.896.8315 x104.

IN STATE RESIDENTS

We continue to receive your emails and phone calls.  We have heard your requests and we have worked diligently with State and Local officials to provide a solution.  Due to the Stay-At-Home executive order being extended and limiting travel from one residence to another residence through April 10, 2020, the following has been approved by the State and County to accommodate access to the park to retrieve only property or belongings needed.  This is not access to clean your site, visit, recreate and/or start to open your site.

  • Members only will have access to their sites during April 10 only.
  • Members will need to call Public Safety Office at 616 896-9006
  • Members will be provided a timeslot by the Public Safety Office.
  • Members will need to check in at the main gate.
  • Members will have a limited amount of time to retrieve belongings.
  • Members will need to check out through the main gate.
  • Associates or guests will not be permitted to enter the park.

We understand that many of you would love to return to Sandy Pines, especially since we’re all starting to get stir crazy. We realize Sandy Pines is a summer home to many, but please understand returning to the park before restrictions are lifted puts our staff and community at risk.  It also potentially extends the time frame in which closures may have to occur.  Now is not the time to take any unnecessary risks not only for ourselves but for others. Please be patient. Please stay where you are until such time that is safe and recommended to get back out and about again.  As soon as our places of public accommodation may re-open, we will do so.

We believe these restrictions are absolutely necessary to maintain the safety of our staff, members, and our community.  We did not make these decisions lightly or without reviewing the federal, State of Michigan, local government or CDC requirements, and recommendations.

Please continue to visit our website at SandyPines.com/COVID19. For answers not found online, please contact our Public Safety Office at Security@SandyPines.com or at 616.896.9006. I’m also available to help with any questions you may have by email or phone 616.896.8315 x104. We will get through this by working together.

God bless and stay safe!

Am I reading this correctly? April 10th is the only date we can retrieve articles?
My park model at SP is my only residence since selling my home in the Metro Detroit area. Do I have to make other arrangements through May 1st? My brother and sister are both over 80 years old and I do not want to risk their health by asking to live in their homes. I have not had any symptoms of the virus and have been isolated for three weeks.

Stan, If you haven’t done so already, please contact the Public Safety Office regarding your situation.

I understand times are difficult, however, It would be nice if when we call in to schedule our time we are not treated rudely for asking 1 question and taking 30 seconds to look at our calendars. Especially considering we were given no notice and asked to pick a time out of thin air. For reference my phone log stated a 1 min 30 sec call and I was told “you have to hurry up”

Please note in the email notification we specified the option for members to choose a day in which to retrieve items form the park. That was a typo as the only day members are able to access the park by prior appointment, is Friday, April 10, 2020. The update on our website (here) is correct.

April 10 is tomorrow! That is not enough notice for me!! I have plans I cannot change. Really? Only 1 day with only a few hours price?

  8. Ardie dewall on April 9, 2020 at 7:34 pm

That doesn’t make sense. Do you realize how many people are going to call in to try to make an appointment that’s convenient for them to get there?

My prior comment sounds like a complaint. It was just my initial reaction. I do realize you are under enormous stress trying to abide by the Governor’s guidelines & I support you 100%. Like most, I miss Sandy Pines!!!

What is the current process for putting our trailers up for sale, I’m not altogether sure I want to continue being a member at Sandy Pines?

  11. Paul Holiday on April 10, 2020 at 5:24 pm

It appears that Sandy Pines will not be opening until at least April 30th. Since there has been some member concerns about “reimbursements”, is it possible that Sandy Pines season can remain open until October 30th? Sandy Pines is a 6 month facility. Adjusting 2 weeks to the end of the season would maintain (and possibly satisfy) the 6 month. The weather is still very nice thru October.
