COVID-19 Memorial Weekend Update Graphic

As we head into the Memorial Weekend Holiday we had a few updates to pass on for your safety.

Please remember the park is not open. We are allowing access to Members and their immediate family only. Associate Members and immediate family can only enter the park along with a member. Based off current restrictions, we plan on allowing Associate Member and guest access on Monday, June 1st and opening the park to campers on Monday, June 15.

Please also remember all of our offices are open by appointment only, including the Public Safety Office at the Main Gate. Please call all our offices ahead of time otherwise we will not be able to let you into the office. Please do not knock on our doors. These procedures are being enforced for the safety of our staff and our community.

The following include important notes and procedures to keep in mind on the Memorial Holiday Weekend:

  • All gates were opened as of Friday 5/22 at 12:00 pm to alleviate backups at the Main Gate.  Cameras are in place at all entrances. Only Member cards will work.  Associate Cards will not work.  Guests are not permitted.  It is the Members responsibility to do the right thing.
  • Maximum per site is still 8 people according to rules for campgrounds in the State of Michigan.
  • The Public Safety Office is open STRICTLY BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.  Please do not knock; call ahead 616-896-9006.
  • Masks are required in all enclosed spaces:  Public Safety, Member Service, All CC’s, Stores, etc.
  • Golf cart testing for teens is cancelled until further notice.
  • Public Safety has firewood for sale; this can be billed to your Member account.  Please call ahead to pay and pick up.
  • We are opening more CCs and extending open hours from 8:00 am to 2:00 am, due to possibility of inclement weather. The CC schedule is listed below along with Laundromat hours.

I am a new member and trying very hard to abide by the rules. I am finding that the rules on COVID-19 are not clear and being misinterpreted by many. This is the statement that you posted on Friday, May 22nd:

Please remember the park is not open. We are allowing access to Members and their immediate family only. Associate Members and immediate family can only enter the park along with a member. Based on current restrictions, we plan on allowing Associate Member and guest access on Monday, June 1st, and opening the park to campers on Monday, June 15.

How was I supposed to interpret that as Associate members can not enter the park with a member? I was viewed on camera, tracked down by security, and told that Associate Members could not be in the park. I was driving the vehicle after having used my access card and had only associate members in the car. Those members are listed on my membership application.

I would not violate park rules knowingly. Clarification is needed on many of your rules.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We’re looking into the discrepancy on the information provided and will provide an update once we have clarification.

About the CC’s open til 2AM. What if sirens go off after that? I hardly think twisters and straight line winds will pay attention to the time. PSO’s going to come unlock them all? Do you have that many in duty to do that? And….aren’t the Phase 3 CC’s FEMA granted facilities? How can you keep designated storm shelters closed? Haven’t ALL CC’s been the place to go for shelter? Very poor plan. Just my opinion!

Can we expect clarification about Associate members being allowed in the park if brought in by a member? The information you published on Friday, May 22 clearly stated that associate members and immediate family members could, yet security continues to say they cannot.

I appreciate the difficulty placed on SP staff during these unprecedented times. I will follow all rules you post. However, first, they have to be clear.

    Thank You

Is there clarification on Associates and guests yet?

        • Sandy Pines on June 1, 2020 at 9:10 am

As of Monday, June 1st, Associate Member cards have been reactivated and associates can now access the park with their own cards. Guests will be able to return on Monday, June 15 as long as current state restrictions do not change.
