Winterfest Wrap Up
Thank you to all of the volunteers and staff that made the 6th Annual WinterFest the most highly attended Winter Festival to date! Thank you Gerda Pitcher for coordinating the event and hosting the volunteer meetings. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. 382 people signed in at the ticket table for the event. Assuming we didn’t catch everyone at the sign in, we can safely assume attendance exceeded 400 people. We estimate just over 200 attended WinterFest in 2018 and just under 300 attended in 2019. Maybe we can exceed 500 in 2021 as we kick off our 50th Anniversary Year of events? We received a lot of great suggestions for next year’s festival and welcome more if you have them. Thank you Scott’s Cart’s Plus for donating $200 toward our food expenses. Due to the record attendance, we ran out of hot dogs at 1:30 but with Scott’s donation, we ran down the road for another round of hot dogs that got us through the event. Thanks to Ol’ Pappy’s Kettle Corn for making the drive from Indiana to serve up some more sweet treats. Thanks to all the bakers that brought trays of yummy home-baked cookies and thanks to Nikki and our Recreation Team for donating many of our serving supplies.
WinterFest and the majority of our events would simply not be possible without the help of volunteers. We have had difficulty soliciting volunteers in the past couple years and we are looking for ways to increase volunteer involvement and communication. We have created a Volunteer Page at sandypines.com/volunteer which will contain volunteer information, updates, and volunteer opportunities. If you click the Volunteer Button, you will be directed to our SignUpGenius Page where you can sign up online for any of our upcoming events. We currently have all of our 2020 event sign ups posted for the 4th of July Parade, Family Fun Day, Halloween In July, Christmas In August, Cardboard Boat Races, Fall Fest, and many 50th Anniversary event planning committees. Please take a look at these volunteer opportunities and sign up for any and all that you’re interested in helping with. Marcie Palmer, our 50th Anniversary Event coordinator posted numerous new volunteer committee positions to help plan next year’s signature events which includes Art in the Park, Bogies & Beers, Casino Night, Family Fun Day, Food Trucks & Tunes, Trivia Night, a Charter Member Dinner, and more. Sandy Pines & Community Events
Now that our Wall Calendars are for sale and our park event dates are set, we’ll be finalizing and printing our 2020 Recreation & Lessons Calendar which should be ready by opening day. Once that is complete we’ll finalize and print the 2020 Community Events which are those coordinated by many of our senior volunteers, groups and committees. This schedule will include Bingo, Pot Lucks, Horeshoes, Knitting, Crocheting, Sewing, Shuffleboard, Sr. Softball, and card games such as Bridge, Euchre, Hand & Foot, Poker, and MahJongg. Our goal for availability of this schedule is Memorial Weekend as it takes time each spring to reconfirm the dates and details submitted in the fall. If you want to include an event on the Community Calendar, all dates and details are due by Tuesday, March 31, 2020. Sandy Pines is a very unique and engaged community. We are the chosen “Happy Place” for thousands of local members and thousands more associate members, guests, and campers. We average a population of 8,000 during summer weekdays, 10-12,000 on summer weekends and can even reach up to 30-40,000 on holiday weekends. Our members and guests are very engaged on social media, online and through all our communication channels. Because of this engagement, we have the ability to provide excellent exposure to partnering local businesses, sponsors, and advertisers. We are seeking great local businesses and organizations to partner with us to sponsor our events and programming that supports our mission of providing a fun and safe environment where families and friends create a lifetime of memories. We have numerous avenues to get your brand in front of our community and provide value to our members by educating them on great local organizations and products. We are also working on many 50th Anniversary sponsorship opportunities, which you’ll see in the 50th Anniversary News included in this Footprints.
