Dear Sandy Pines Members,
We are writing to provide another important update on the Lake Monterey Dam Project, a joint effort between Allegan County, Salem Township, and Sandy Pines. With construction set to begin today, September 10th, we want to make sure all members are aware of key updates, timelines, and how the project may impact access to the park and lake.
Road Closure Update
As of this morning, Tuesday, September 10th, the road over the dam is now closed. All access to the roadway will be blocked off, and no through traffic will be permitted. Please plan ahead for alternate travel routes within the park. For your safety, we strongly recommend using your car to navigate around the park, as detours will be necessary. If you absolutely need to drive your golf cart, you may enter or exit using the golf course or the main gate.
Project Timeline Updates
The construction team will begin preparing for the coffer dam on Monday, September 16th, focusing on setting up cranes to move the sheeting into place. This setup is expected to take about a week, with the installation of the coffer dam starting around Monday, September 23rd.
Looking ahead, the installation of box culverts for the dam is scheduled for Wednesday, October 2nd, pending no significant delays. Box culverts are large, rectangular concrete structures used to channel water flow, helping to maintain proper drainage and water management beneath the dam. Their installation is a critical step in reinforcing the dam’s overall structure and ensuring the long-term stability of the lake. We will continue to provide regular updates to keep everyone informed on the project’s progress.
Biweekly Updates
We will be holding biweekly meetings with the construction crew to ensure the project stays on track. Expect timely updates from us as new information becomes available or as we reach major milestones.
Boat Removal Reminder
At this time, most boats should already be off the lake. If you haven’t yet removed your boat, we strongly recommend doing so as soon as possible. Construction may impact lake levels and access, making boat retrieval more challenging later in the season.
Final Thoughts
We appreciate your continued patience and cooperation as we work on this critical project. The Lake Monterey Dam is an essential part of our park’s infrastructure, and this project will help secure its long-term safety and functionality. Should you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your understanding and support!
